Witte de Withstraat is a vibrant street in the heart of Rotterdam, popular among both locals and visitors. Known for its lively atmosphere, it offers a diverse mix of cafés, restaurants, art galleries, and boutiques.

The street was named in 1871 after naval hero Witte Cornelisz. de With. In the 1970s, it had a shady reputation due to seedy bars and illegal gambling dens, but it underwent a remarkable transformation in the 1990s. As part of the “Art Axis,” which connects the Museumpark to the Maritime Museum, it gained a strong cultural and creative identity.

Fun fact: around 1900, the city’s first horse-drawn tram line ran through this street, marking its place in Rotterdam’s public transport history.

Today, Witte de Withstraat is a hotspot for art, culture, and nightlife. With plenty of places to stay, it’s not just a place to visit, but one to explore and enjoy.
