The Mysterious Sculpture in the City Hall

1 min readMetrostation Waterlooplein 5

Walking through the imposing building of the Stopera, you come across an intriguing work of art. The origin of this sculpture is shrouded in mystery. It was placed in 1991 and its maker(s) remain unknown. An anonymous artist previously offered bronze sculptures to the city on the condition that his or their identity would remain secret. One of these artworks , known as the "Blue Fiddler", is an assembled metal sculpture found in Amsterdam's atmospheric Tweede Marnixplantsoen. There are even rumours that former Queen Beatrix may have been the creator of this sculpture. Either way, it is definitely worth pausing to admire this work of art up close!
