After World War II, a unique train appeared on German tracks: the Blauer Express. Named for its light-blue carriages, this Soviet train operated from 1945 between Potsdam and Brest, serving high-ranking Soviet officials, diplomats, and military officers. Potsdam Park Sanssouci was its western terminus.

The train arrived with pomp: red carpets, uniformed guards, and Russian-speaking staff. The station’s former imperial grandeur was repurposed as a showcase of Soviet authority. The Blauer Express had no fixed schedule. It ran as needed, often at night, discreet yet efficient. For its passengers, it was a gateway into a Soviet-controlled world within Germany — with luxurious interiors, dedicated staff, and strict formalities.

The train remained in use until 1955. After that, its carriages disappeared from view, closing a unique chapter in railway history. Today, the Blauer Express is mostly forgotten, but traces and tales in Potsdam recall a time when this station served as a diplomatic outpost in a divided world.
