As you walk along rue Réaumur, you immediately notice how Paris changed at the dawn of the twentieth century. Largely built around 1895, this street became a showcase for modern architecture with iron and stone facades, often richly decorated.
For the first time in decades, architects were free to be creative, thanks to new city rules. Every building has its own personality, with competitions for the most beautiful facade. The street runs from Square du Temple to the Bourse, following the path of old roads. Over time, traces of old Paris disappeared here, but the grandeur remains.
In January 1918, a building was hit during an air raid, and almost a century later, mass graves from the days of the old Trinity cemetery were discovered during construction. Rue Réaumur is a street where every stone tells a story.
