Welcome to the Ridderzaal, one of the most iconic buildings in the Netherlands. Located at the heart of the Binnenhof in The Hague, this impressive hall was built in the late 13th century by Count Floris V as a reception and banquet hall for the nobility.

Over the centuries, the Ridderzaal has served many roles. In the 15th century, the Burgundian rulers used it for meetings of the prestigious Order of the Golden Fleece. Charles the Bold stayed here to administer justice and assert his authority. During the Napoleonic era, it even functioned as a hospital and stable.

Today, the Ridderzaal serves a ceremonial purpose. It is best known as the site where the monarch delivers the annual Speech from the Throne on Prinsjesdag, outlining the government’s plans for the year. It also hosts international conferences and official gatherings.

Inside, the hall impresses with its high wooden ceiling supported by heavy beams. The walls are adorned with coats of arms from Dutch cities and noble families, while a stained-glass window displays the Dutch national coat of arms surrounded by the emblems of the twelve provinces.
