You are on the bustling Leidseplein, a lively place in Amsterdam where you can enjoy plenty of restaurants, nightlife and shopping. The square owes its name to the historic Leidsestraat, which in earlier times was the road to Leiden. The imposing Leidsepoort, a striking landmark from the 17th century, also stood here. Today, Leidseplein is an important hub for public transport in the city, as it once was for one of the very first horse tram lines in the Netherlands.

As you make your way towards the end of the square, you will discover the grand entrance to the famous Vondelpark, Amsterdam's largest park. An oasis of greenery and tranquillity amid the bustling city. But there is more. Leidseplein is surrounded by extraordinary buildings that bear witness to Amsterdam's rich past. Think iconic theatres like the Stadsschouwburg, where magical performances have enchanted audiences for centuries, and the Melkweg, a place where culture and music come together in a unique ambiance.

And in the winter, when the cold has enveloped the country, Leidseplein transforms into an enchanting winter paradise. An atmospheric skating rink is set up here, where tourists and locals enjoy the Netherlands' most popular winter sport together. The cheerful sounds of skaters moving across the ice mingle with the murmur of people around them. A warm and cosy atmosphere fills the air, making a visit to Leidseplein a unique and unforgettable experience.
