Berlin’s Hackesche Höfe is a captivating blend of history, architecture, and modern urban culture. Located on Rosenthaler Strasse, this series of eight interconnected courtyards offers a glimpse into the city’s vibrant past and present. In the late 19th century, Rosenthaler Strasse was a bustling hub of garment manufacturing, making Berlin the fashion capital of Germany. As the industry moved away, the neighborhood was transformed. In 1906, the Hackesche Höfe were completed, embodying the peak of the Jugendstil movement.

Architect Kurt Berndt designed the striking façades, adorned with decorative details, creating a mixed-use complex that combined residential, commercial, and industrial spaces. The main entrance at Rosenthaler Strasse 38 leads visitors into this unique world. Today, the Hackesche Höfe is a lively destination, attracting both locals and tourists. Around forty shops, cafés, restaurants, and cultural venues bring life to the courtyards. After German reunification, the complex was carefully restored, preserving its historic charm while adapting it for modern needs.

Visitors can explore the interconnected courtyards, discovering boutique stores, cozy cafés, and cultural highlights. The layout encourages exploration, offering hidden gems at every corner. Nearby, the Rosenhöfe on Rosenthaler Strasse and the Heckmannhöfe on Oranienburger Strasse provide even more courtyards with their own vibrant mix of shops and restaurants.
