Even in one of the most densely populated areas of Rotterdam, you can find nature! The starling is a common city bird that likes to snatch an easy bite to eat, such as a piece of bread or chips. They can also be seen at the station; these birds usually sit high up, but they will land on the platforms for some food. They sing all year round and are also famous for their perfect imitations of countless other birds and environmental sounds. In the past, these were sounds such as the sharpening of a scythe or the squeaking of a pump handle. The starling on platform 9, to the horror of passengers, hisses as trains that are nowhere to be seen depart.
